Well it’s not Thursday and I am finally writing the blog on Sunday
from Tracy’s room.
As I said
in the last blog Wednesday was my birthday.
It was rather quiet. Marlene and
Aubrey Brush visited and took me to lunch for my birthday. It was nice to have them here.
Thursday
as mentioned in my last blog was Tracy’s guardianship hearing. I was very conflicted about this, because if
I didn’t receive it the Hospital
could move Tracy to the 9th floor but she would not be able to
receive treatment. Thus she would remain
on the 5th floor and continue to receive her treatments. If I did get it, the hospital could either
discharge her or move her to the 9th floor, however I would be able
to authorize the continuation of her treatments. If we go to the 9th floor our
insurance will only allow us 20 days and then we would be responsible for the
stay. I am ok with this, but it is the
unknown costs that cause me to worry.
Well I
was granted guardianship. I don’t know what is going to happen yet. But we will be meeting with the doctors
sometime this coming week. The medical
doctors want to discharge Tracy to either the 9th floor or to a sub
acute rehabilitation center, as they cannot find anything medically wrong. The doctors on the 9th floor are
psychiatry doctors and they feel that while they are treating a psychiatric issue
(the catatonia) they do not believe this is a psychiatric issue. This is another concern as once she goes to
the 9th floor, it appears that our insurance benefits will run out
rather quickly and it will be difficult to get them to help with rehabilitation
cost because it would no longer be consider a medical treatment, even though
the psychiatric are under the belief that the catatonia is a result of
something medical.
Friday
was treatment 22. It went well but the
night before was not the best. I woke up around 1:30AM and couldn't go back to
sleep. So finally around 3:15 I decided
that maybe I was awake for reason. So I
called to see how Tracy was. They said
that she was awake also and that they were getting ready to cath her. We usually can get her to pee if someone
talks her through it and the nurse we had didn't try to talk her through it the
last time we had her. So I dressed
quickly and got over to her room by 3:30.
I tried to talk her through it for the next half hour, but was
unsuccessful. The charge nurse came in
and said that Tracy's nurse had bladder scanned her about an hour earlier right
after they had changed her. The scan
showed over 400cc's and they were going to have to cath her. I acquiesced, and they only got about
100cc's. A few other things happened
that night that I didn't care for so nurse number 2 was kicked off the journey.
I then
realized as Tracy and I both dozed off to sleep around 7AM that it was God who
woke me up to be with my lovely wife and carry her through what was a short
night of sleep. The transport team
arrived promptly at 8AM to take us downstairs for treatment 22. About 9AM
they took Tracy in for her treatment and I headed back to my room to try to sleep,
but couldn't. It ended up being a long
day for me. Drew was going to come out
in the evening, but a snowstorm prevented him from coming out. I was proud of his maturity by his handling the
situation.
I took
some Benadryl to help me sleep Friday night and it worked, I got a good 8 hours
or so.
Drew came
out with the Harrison's Saturday morning as they were coming out to see
Sophie's Ballroom Dancing competition. I
went and met them at the competition and watched for an hour or so. She did quite well, placing 3rd and making
the finals in the other three.
As Drew
and I were heading out to go to NorthRidge Church, I got a surprise call from
my brother saying he was half an hour or so away and to go ahead and go to
church and we would meet for dinner afterward as he needed to make a stop anyway. I was so torn, I was excited to see him, but wanted to go to
church. God always wins; we went to
church! It was a very good service and I
was happy to see how well attended it was, as the sanctuary was over 3/4 full.
We
returned to the hospital around 7PM and met Ron and went to Tracy's room. He was encouraged to see Tracy and how much
better he thought she was from his previous visit a week earlier. Drew is always the same way. I guess the doctors and I are just too close
to notice these improvements.
We left
shortly after 8 for dinner and had wonderful time at TupTim, one of our
favorite Thai restaurants here.
We
returned to the hospital around 9:45 to find Tracy sound asleep. So we headed back to our rooms.
This is where
I leave off for now.
God Bless and “Never Give Up… Never Ever Give Up!”
Rob
