Happy New Years

New Years day was rather quiet.  Drew and I went back to sleep after checking on Tracy at 6:30AM.  But we were back up to meet the Harrison’s for breakfast, loaded hash browns, Drew’s preferred breakfast here at the cafeteria (they are pretty good).

Lisa had gotten up earlier and had already spent some time with Trace.

After we were through with breakfast, we went for a walk to what is known as the jungle.  It is a beautiful atrium in the Cardio Vascular Center.  On the way back we experienced the wind tunnel, which is the hall that connects the hospital to the CVC.

The Harrison’s packed up and headed for home, as Ian had to go to work.  I think he was going to be modeling shirtless for American Eagle, just kidding.

Drew and I were excited to watch the Lions vs. the Packers.  It was a pathetic shootout of a game.  And in case you didn’t know the Packers won, congratulations Dennis enjoy the victory while you can, my day is coming soon.

The Immink’s showed up just before halftime of the game to see Tracy, as they had spent Christmas in Southern California.

Drew wanted to hurry up and get home, so he could go out with Taylor and I needed to run in to work to take care of something’s.  So he and I left Keith and Cassie with Tracy at the start of the 4th quarter.

As we pulled out of the parking garage in our separate cars, the snow really began to fall.  I was glad we leaving together.  You could see us both cheer as the Lions did something good, and see us hit the steering wheels of our cars when they didn’t.  By the time we parted ways at 696 and I75 the Lions had lost the game.

I went to work and Drew went home to get Murphy and to take Taylor out to dinner.

I spent about 3 hours at work and left around 8PM to head back to Ann Arbor.  The closer I got to A2 the more the snow fell and the worse the roads got.  But I arrived safely and spent a couple of hours with Tracy.  Before heading to bed.

The next day was Monday and we had guests on the schedule and a rather important football game, The Rose Bowl.  In case you don’t follow college football it I the Granddaddy of them all, this year in featured the Wisconsin Badgers against our Beloved Oregon Ducks.  I wore my Oregon Duck t-shirt that said, “My Other Stadium is The Rose Bowl” and Drew as I found out later his Oregon Jersey.

I started the day out with my usual call to check on Trace and then back for some needed sleep.  I woke up around 9, cleaned up and headed over to see Tracy.  I was there about an hour when they came to bath her.  So being the gentleman that I am, I excused myself and went down to the cafeteria, where I later met our first guests Ed and Esther Roden.  They updated me on Josh’s girlfriend Ally’s grandfather who was in serious condition at Botsford Hospital.  Please remember Ally’s family in your prayers as we have.

It was nice catching up with them as it had been over a month since I had last seen Esther.   I was also glad to hear that Esther is starting to sip some Apple juice, although she still likes to look at the Windows.  I like to tease Esther about Apple computers.  They spent a couple of hours with us and headed back home.

After they left I went back to the room ate some food and took a nap and waited for our next visitors, Bocce (Jon) and Christina Everhart.  The last time I saw them was before Thanksgiving, when the Elders from our church came and prayed over Tracy.

We had a good visit and also went to the cafeteria, I don’t remember why, but the nurse ran us out of the room.  Jon and I tried to follow the game as we talked.  He didn’t want to say it but he was rooting for the Badgers.  We decided that whoever held the other from scoring last would win the game, as each scored on what seemed like every drive.  They left during the 4th quarter, there seems to be something about leaving in the 4th quarter.  I watched the end of the game with Drew over Skype.  And in case you hadn’t heard the Ducks won!  Sorry Dennis and Debbie, Ducks Rule, Bucky drools.

I talked with Drew a bit more and headed back to see Trace.  I’d like to say that she asked me if the Ducks won, but as I am sure you all know, she could probably care less.

I headed back to get to bed as Tuesday would be treatment #7 and would need to be back in Tracy’s room at 7AM.

I will leave this blog with a question that came up over the weekend.

Why is underwear counted or described as pairs?

God Bless and “Never Give Up… Never Ever Give Up!”
